Ostrich Girl Final
This is the final for the ostrich girl. I'm not really too happy with it. I spent so much time trying to get the colors right, that I ended up not giving myself enough time to really layer in the paint and give the whole thing smooth blending.I think I'm starting to miss oils and I might do another version of this with them..
Ostrich Girl Progress
This is the first step of our new media assignment. It's an open sci-fi painting.I had a cool thumbnail of a half ostrich girl and I decided to run with that and added some astronaut helmets shattered on the ground.
Next step is painting over it in light glazes so the drawing still shows through.
She's not a chocobo.
Smart Car Illustration
So this assignment was to make an illustration of cars and and aspect of how we interact with them. He gave us a bunch of options like Road Rage, Traffic, Cruising or Drive Ins. Also, the format was 7 by 17 inches, vertically. So that was a challenge. I chose do do Going Green and Eco-friendly cars since i thought trees would work well with the long composition.So this is the tight sketch after the thumbnail. Just fleshing out how i want it to look.
Then I inked it out. I was working on this piece and the elephant and girl pieces at the same time. So ink was just a natural choice.
After the ink it just became a matter of trying out different coloring techniques to overlay on it. I did a watercolor wash to put on top. A friend of mine did a coloring with gouache. And the last one was another friends idea to just put the color in the background so the line work doesn't get affected and it still communicates going green.
Woman, Pet, Machine
For our advanced media class we were assigned to illustrate Man, Pet and Machine. Our teacher made it clear that we could interpret it any way we wanted. The human could be the pet, the machine could be as simple as a knife or rock, the man and animal could be mixed. Any way we wanted to think about it
I've been taking a fun india class so i decided to do something in that direction. A goddess type character sitting on top of a giant elephant that half morphs into industrial machinery.
I still want to add more elaborate designs to the elephant's armor and make some nice embroidery on the rug on his back.

The goddess came out pretty much how I pictured her. Except for the fact that she has 9 arms. I say she lost one in a fight. I still need to find a good way to merge the 2 drawings in a way that looks good.
Sushi Self Portrait
So this semester I'm taking a class called advanced media. Pretty much we learn more advanced and in depth techniques with different media. Our first ones are mainly dealing with pen and ink.For the first assignment he basically wanted us to jump back into pen and ink and play around with it and kinda remember how it feels. He sent us to do a 48- self portrait that involves our lunch somehow.
I chose sushi.
I sort of like how it came out, especially for the time limit. Except only half the people saw that it was sushi. Too most it looked like maggots eating a tumor and gore and nasty stuff. It was supposed to be light hearted and funny in a dark way. But, I guess in the end it came out way to grotesque. Oh well.
